Many people enjoy spending time making crafts. Whether crafters do so by themselves, with family, or friends, it can be a rewarding pastime. In addition to crocheting and knitting, quilting continues to be a popular activity. Estimates indicate that there are 21 million people that create quilts in the United States alone. There are other ways, of course, that crafters express their creativity and make beautiful and functional items.
The Growing Popularity of Crafting
The Association for Creative Industries conducted research on the number of American households that participated in crafting. They found that crafting has increased in popularity over the past few years. In 2010, for example, just 56% of U.S. households made crafts. By 2017, however, this increased to 63%.
Research also shows that even though crafters tend to be younger, people of all ages do participate. Recent figures indicate that crafters are in the following age brackets:
- Between 18 to 34: 35%
- Between 35 and 54: 37%
- Over 55: 28%
An Added Benefit of Crafting
The British Journal of Occupational Therapy published a study on crafting. The findings showed that when people engage in these types of creative pursuits, dopamine is released. This was demonstrated by 81% of the study’s respondents that experienced depression. After knitting, these individuals stated that they felt happy.
The Importance of Being Organized
There are, of course, a variety of benefits associated with reducing clutter. One of these is being able to locate items, such as tools and supplies, when needed. The Daily Mail, for example, cited research that reveals people lose as many as nine items every day. This amounts to 198,743 throughout their lives. When people create a system and continue following it, such as using an organizer with 5 drawers for storing yarn, fabric, and other crafting supplies, they can save themselves both time and frustration.
Some crafters may complain that their homes are cluttered because they don’t have enough space. The National Soap and Detergent Association, however, stated that 80% of this clutter is due to being disorganized. Furthermore, when households eliminate clutter, their housecleaning chores are also reduced. In an average home, this can be as much as 40% less housework, which leaves more time for crafting.
Organize Your Home
Whether you’re planning to organize one or more rooms in your home, there are a variety of products from which to choose.
