Donate clothes

Unfortunately, there are far too many homeless people in the United States today. Of course, one homeless person is one-too-many but the numbers are just staggering. According to a report by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, there are more than 600,000 homeless men, women, and children in the country. Roughly a quarter of the homeless are children. In the wealthiest country in the world, no one should be without basic supplies and needs such as food, water, clothing, and of course housing.

Clothing in particular are important to the homeless. Donating clothes to charity is a prominent component in the fight against homelessness and poverty. Sadly, far too much clothing and fabrics are needlessly tossed away; clothing that could have gone to the less fortunate. Consider, for example, that 5% of the country’s landfill waste consists of cotton, polyester, nylon, rayon, and other fabrics that are perfectly recyclable. Nearly 90% of such waste, in fact, can be reused for clothing. Think of all the clothing that could have been made from such material, the thousands of people who could have benefited from that. The millions of people who would have benefited overall from having renewable material removed from our nation’s overflowing landfills.

If you have any clothing you no longer wear, whether it be due to its size or style, consider donating them to charity. Charitable clothing donations go a long way in the struggle against poverty. There are many charities to support in this regard. In fact, some charities will go as far as picking up clothing from one’s doorstep or curbside! The donation pickup option is very popular. A recent survey has shown that half of people who donate clothing would rather have a donation pickup than leaving their house, and more than half claim they won’t donate their clothing at all if the charity is more than a 10 minute drive!

Feel free to leave a comment or question at the bottom for more information about clothing donations and donation pickups.
