Three Ways to Give Back This Holiday Season
With the holiday season in full swing, many people are busy running from store to store to find presents for family and friends and check all of the items off of their gift lists. While exchanging gifts with loved ones is cherished holiday tradition, it important to remember that the holiday season is also a time to give back. Many families across the country have a hard time putting food on the table, let alone buying presents for family members. It is easy to get caught up in the chaos of the holidays, but taking the time to put together charitable donations for people in need can change lives. Some of the most requested items for charitable donations every holiday season include:
- Toys – One of the most common types of donation drives seen around the holidays is toy drives. These drives collect toys for low-income families who would not be able to afford to buy presents for their children on their own. Donating a toy or toys to families in need during the holiday season is a great way to share the holiday spirit and spread a little Christmas cheer. Typically toys need to be in their original packaging and unwrapped in order to be donated.
- Clothing – While many organizations collect charitable clothing donations throughout the year, they are especially important this time of year when the temperature begins to plummet in many parts of the country. Warm winter items like jackets, gloves, socks, hats and scarves are some of the essential clothing items that many charities ask for this time of year. Donating clothes is one of the best ways of helping families in need this holiday season.
- Food – Food is another item that is collected throughout the year but shouldn’t be forgotten about during the holidays. Many people get so caught up contemplating the big holiday meal they will be preparing for Christmas dinner that they often forget that there are many people out there who never know when their next meal is coming. Taking the time to pick out some canned and/or boxed nonperishable food items could mean that one more person gets to enjoy a nice meal this holiday season.
Making charitable donations over the holidays can make a huge difference in someone’s life, whether it be a toy, item of clothing or food. The holidays may get busy, but making a little time to help those in need is what the holiday season is truly about. Reference links.
